To make our creamy homemade strawberry milk you only need 3 simple ingredients. Strawberries, almond milk and dates. And because we use almond milk, this recipe is also naturally Vegan.

I like to make my own nut milks from scratch a lot of the time, but...BUT... I'm a busy Mum of 3, and I just don't always have the time or energy for that. This recipe gives you a healthier homemade strawberry milk, focusing on using wholefoods, and avoiding artificial flavors, without the fuss of straining the almond pulp though a cheesecloth.

What you'll need
Ingredients

- Unsweetened Almond Milk - When choosing the store-bought version, I recommend using one with as few ingredients as possible. Health food stores are a gret place to find healthier plant-based milks. Plenish Almond Milk, that I've used in this recipe for example, only contains organic almonds, water and sea salt. If you'd like to, you can also make your own homemade almond milk using just raw almonds and filtered water. Our recipe for this can be found here.
- Strawberries - We use fresh strawberries when they're in season, but frozen strawberries also work just fine.
- Medjool dates - We use these for sweetness and the health benefits.
- Ice cubes - Totally optional, but worth it if you have them.
See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for quantities of everything.
Equipment
High-speed blender - If you have a regular blender, I would recommend straining the milk through a nut milk bag or muslin cloth before serving. This will remove any tiny bits not broken down in the blender, which will help give you a nice smooth silky texture.
How to make homemade strawberry milk

- Step 1: Slice the tops off your strawberries

- Step 2: De-stone your dates (remove the stones from the centres).

- Step 3: Add all your ingredients to the belnder.

- Step 4. Turn your blender to full speed and blend for 1 minute.

Serve and enjoy immediately, or pour the milk into a bottle or jug for storing in the fridge.
Substitutions and variations
Substitutions
- Almond milk - If you'd like to avoid dairy products, any plant-based milk can be used intead. Oat milk, cashew milk and soy milk are great options as they have a more creamy texture compared to others. Just remember to use the unsweetened versions if you prefer to avoid added sugars. If staying dairy-free isn't necessary for you, simply use your favorite dairy milk instead.
- Strawberries - You can use any other berries you have at home. It's so easy to get creative with this recipe. Blackberries, raspberries and blackcurrants are all fun alternatives. Again you can use frozen or fresh berries for any of these alternatives.
- Medjool dates - You can sub these for your sweetener of choice. 3 Medjool dates are aproximately equal to 2 tbsps honey or maple syrup. Monk fruit can also be used, but Monk fruit is much sweeter than honey, so use 1 teaspoon at a time and taste as you go. You can always add more, but you can't take it away.
Variations
- Flavours - As mentioned above, any type of fruit would work, it's up to you how adventurous you fancy being. If you prefer to stick to the classic flavors though, you can switch the strawberries out for 2 ripe bananas, or add 2 tbsps cacao powder.
- Protein - You can boost the protein content by adding 1-2 tbsps of your favorite protein powder. Or you can use 1-2tbsps of hemp seeds or chia seeds. Both of which are a great way to add in some healthy fats, which are essential for our rapidly growing children.
- Chocolate Milk - We have two recipes for Chocolate Milk, our 3 ingredient chocolate milk, or our chocolate black bean smoothie (which the kids and I highly recommend).
Storage
Store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Shake well before serving.
Top tip
Use cold milk and strawberries from the fridge. Blending ingredients can warm them up a little, and you want to enjoy this nice and cold. If you have ice cubes, I recommend popping a couple into your glass when serving too.
